Black Friday 2026: a technical checklist for your online store in Colombia

In this article

Before investing in a Black Friday campaign, confirm customers can find a product, pay and receive the correct confirmation. A prepared store needs a consistent catalog, tested mobile checkout, connected inventory and a procedure for failures. Website appearance is only part of the work.

This guide turns holiday preparation into concrete checks for businesses in Barranquilla and Colombia. It complements our 2026 AI-commerce article: the focus here is store operations, without promising access to new AI shopping features or automatic commercial results.

Start with a complete purchase on a phone

Visit as a new customer: open a product, choose a variant, add it to the cart and complete checkout. Use devices and connections typical of your audience. Review copy, fields, errors, buttons and the return from the gateway, not just the homepage.

Check: selected prices, variants and quantities must survive through to the order. Total cost and relevant conditions need to be clear before payment. Test purchases require an agreed environment and procedure; do not experiment blindly on real orders.

1. Catalog, promotions and availability

Choose the products actually participating in the campaign. Review names, images, variants, prices, offer validity and availability. Define who can change each field and which system owns it when ecommerce and ERP are separate.

Check: test an unavailable variant, an expired promotion and a coupon that cannot combine with another offer. Define what happens when two customers try to buy the last unit. Verify stock reservation or deduction with your platform and integrations rather than assuming an installed connector handles it.

2. Checkout and payments with clear states

Review payment methods enabled for your account and operation. Test approval, rejection, cancellation and a delayed response. An approved charge must remain associated with its order if the browser closes or a webhook arrives twice.

Check: document what confirms payment, how the order updates and who resolves inconsistencies. Review notifications, logs and duplicate-event handling. Do not ask a buyer to pay again before checking the actual transaction state.

3. Inventory and orders connected to your team

When you also sell in a physical store, online stock needs rules that avoid conflicts with on-site operations. Define the inventory source, synchronization frequency and information exchanged with the ERP, POS or dispatch system.

Check: follow a test order from the website to the people preparing it. Verify products, quantities, address, delivery type and status. Test an interrupted integration and retry: recovering information should not silently create a second order.

4. Delivery and support that reflect reality

Review areas, costs and conditions for destinations you actually serve. Define restrictions, pickup where available and messages for products with different shipping needs. During peak season, staff must be able to adjust communicated lead times and answer order questions using consistent information.

Check: test an address inside and outside coverage. Confirm the chosen delivery option persists in the order and the confirmation explains the next step. Do not publish a delivery commitment your operation cannot meet.

5. Performance, hosting and recovery

Identify pages and services involved in buying: products, search, cart, checkout, payments and external connections. Measure first, then assess images, caching and environment capacity with your provider. Caching must respect personal data, carts and sessions.

Check: run controlled load tests in an authorized environment with agreed criteria and limits. Test backup restoration too: possessing a backup file does not demonstrate recovery. Agree owners, alerts and a rollback procedure for campaign changes.

6. Measurement through to an inquiry or purchase

Defined events distinguish visits from confirmed purchases: product views, cart creation, checkout, payment and order. Implement measurement within the site's privacy configuration; incomplete or duplicate events should not be mistaken for business results.

Check: record a test purchase and compare events with the actual order. Separate sales, cancellations and support requests. Preserve campaign sources to evaluate orders and qualified inquiries, not only clicks.

7. Products understood by search engines and AI experiences

Google announced new seasonal commerce tools in September 2026, providing a reason to review product presentation. Availability depends on each feature, market and account. Your first task remains consistent, accessible information that helps a buyer.

Check: review indexable URLs, titles, descriptions, internal links and product data matching the page. If you use a feed, compare its prices and availability with the catalog. Do not advertise a different offer in structured data or promise appearance in an AI answer.

What should you fix first when time is short?

Prioritize failures that block or contradict a purchase: incorrect totals, payments without orders, impossible stock, delivery outside coverage or mobile checkout that cannot finish. Then address performance and editorial improvements. A complete redesign immediately before the campaign needs a reason and a testing plan.

Keep an issue register with an owner, evidence and review date. Each check should state what was tested and the expected result. Boxes ticked without a complete purchase do not demonstrate readiness.

Prepare your campaign with a specific scope

Is your store ready for Black Friday and holiday shopping? Our web design, API and hosting services can review the buying journey, integrations and environment. Share your URL, platform, payment methods, inventory system and planned campaign to define verifiable priorities.

The aim is an operation that supports the campaign. We do not promise a sales percentage from this checklist: measure problems and outcomes to decide what to improve before and after launch.
